<P CLASS="MsoNormal">Recent media coverage of trans-identified individuals has increased awareness of the existence of identities beyond the gender binary…or has it? An examination of this media coverage reveals that the subjects of coverage tend to be overwhelmingly cis-passing, living largely heteronormative lives. While there is nothing inherently wrong with a traditionally masculine or feminine presentation, those who fall outside the gender binary are now faced with even more pressure—much of it emerging from their own community—to conform. As transmasculine entertainers, we have the option of either increasing this pressure or breaking it down. This interactive discussion, drawing from the lived experiences of long-time community advocates and entertainers, explores the various ways in which transmasculine performances can deconstruct patriarchal masculinity and lead to new opportunities for gender non-conforming individuals that extend well beyond our time on stage.</P>
