About this event

  • Event lasts 3 hours

Instructor Sean Owens will share their euphoric joy for the one-sheet, eight-page zine-- and their special technique for creating something that allows our subconscious mind to play and explore. Starting with the basics (how to fold it, making strong and quick decisions), Ms. Owens will guide you through building a surrealist narrative using a three-layer collage strategy, which insures that you emerge with a finished zine. A perfect class for curious first-timers, as well as fans of the craft.

You'll be supplied with collage elements, as well as all the tools you need! Queer, trans, and playful allies welcome -- anyone looking to fall in love with this delightful form of bookmaking and self-publication!

SEAN OWENS (they/them) is a playwright/performer in San Francisco, with 32 zines published through The SpookyHaus, their queer arts collective! A fan of narrative in all forms, Sean also hosts a variety of literary club nights, such as Fancypants and Florid (FancypantsSF.com). They're also the Artistic Director of the MD24, the annual Moby Dick Marathon at the Maritime Museum, each October in SF.

Frequently asked questions

What is your class cancellation policy?

Refunds can be obtained through Eventbrite. NO refunds will be issued within 7 days of a class's scheduled start. We understand that things come up, but we have to adhere to this policy in order to support our staff and guest educators. Some special exceptions can be made.

Transportation

ARCH is easily accessible by public transportation. The 22 Fillmore and 55 Dogpatch both stop two blocks away at 16th and Wisconsin. Public transit is recommended as parking in the area is mostly time restricted and may require you to leave the class to re-park your car.

Parking

Hourly parking is available surrounding the store and Jackson park. We recommend arriving in the neighborhood early to secure parking. Please look closely at surrounding parking signs to ensure your needed length of parking.

Food and Amenities

Please do not bring food and drinks into the store (water bottles are OK), please reach out if you need an exception or accommodation for dietary or medical needs. There are a number of local cafes and restaurants surrounding the store if you want to visit them during class break.

Accesibility

ARCH is wheelchair accessible, and has a public restroom. Classes take place in the lower, back part of the store, down an ADA grade ramp. Class set up can restrict space, so please reach out nathaniel@archsupplies.com if you use a wheelchair or walker, or need any other accessibility accommodation.
