About this event
Come play with simple and nourishing improvisational movement inquiries in a Queer-centric context. This class offers time to land into our creativity, playfulness, authenticity, and embodied presence together through dance. There are no steps to learn, and no prior experience is necessary. This class is a dive into the magic of improvisation in the collective, and participants will be supported to listen to their own instinctive currents of rhythm, gesture, shaping space, while weaving a field of resonant play through simple attunement. LIke playing jazz together but with body movements, catching fire together by sourcing within and echoing currents rippling through the room. Sometimes we move with music, other times with soundscapes of nature, or the song of silence. Katriona (she/they) has recently moved home to Victoria from California, and is bringing some deep magic to share, gathered from their studies in Authentic Movement, Movement-Based Expressive Arts, and Soul Motion, from the diverse dance world in Big Sur, California. Come check it out!
Frequently asked questions
This is for anyone who wants to move together in a curious, playful, improvisational way.
No. There are no stairs into the dance hall from the parking lot, and no stairs to access the bathroom from the dance hall.
No. This room is just a lovely dance hall, with a Marley dance floor (that's soft on the body when moving). There is no religious iconography in the room. It is owned by the church and rented out to dance teachers and other folks in the Victoria community.
This means there are is no set choreography. Instead, we co-create movement through experiential frameworks that provide jumping off points, or seeds of inspiration to play with - such as playing with movement through the kinesphere from center to periphery, or playing with breath to movement.
Whatever you like to wear for movement, layers for sure, so you can add a layer if cold and remove one if hot.
The floor is a special Marley dance floor, so we wear either bare feet, or dance shoes (inside only shoes with soft dance soles), to protect the floor.
