About this event

  • 3 hours

Explore the magical confluence of local agriculture, queer community, horticulture, food production, education, environmentalism, nature, science, craft, old world and new with gay farmer & potluck host Dom Palumbo and lots of other queer men who care about local food, at this amazingly diverse 35 acre permaculture farm. Don will give a short talk at the potluck about how delicious and nutritious local, fresh food is and where you can find it this summer. He invites all guests to bring dishes and beverages to share that contain as many locally-sourced ingredients as possible. Find you local farmer's market or search in your grocery store for items marked "locally-sourced." This is one of the best ways to greatly increase how delicious your food is, as well as invest in your local food/farm economy -- that is the mainstay of great food in the Berkshires.

WHAT TO BRING:

  • $10-$20 donation paid online or as cash or check made out to BSCC (Q-MoB's 501(c)3 Non-profit Fiscal Sponsor)
  • Bring a dish &/or beverage to share with about 6 other people and that contain as many locally grown or raised ingredients as possible.
  • Please also make a small sign for your dish that discloses if it contains any of these common allergens/restrictions: dairy, gluten, eggs, meat/chicken/fish, nuts/peanuts, MSG, preservatives, food colors, alcohol, caffeine, sugar, soy, vegan, vegetarian, paleo, etc.
  • Bring a camp or folding chair, as there are a limited number of chairs at the farm, and if you have several of these chairs, please bring them to share with those who don't
  • Bring rain gear and shoes that can get muddy, as we'll almost certainly do a farm tour
  • If light/intermittent rain is in the forecast the morning of the event, please bring a pop-up tent if you have one, as there are limited in-door spaces at the farm & we will only have a few pop-up tents

PARKING & DIRECTIONS: Please park on the west (left) side of the road, pulling off the road as much as possible--the driveway can accommodate a few cars for those who have mobility challenges. Because parking is limited we strongly suggest carpooling. Because this is a remote area, we recommend you download the directions from your favorite directions app, as you may not have cell phone coverage out in the country.

CARPOOLING/RIDE-SHARE: Carpooling is a great way to get to know other men, save money on gas, and help to reduce your carbon footprint and save the planet. If you need a ride or are open to carpooling, please indicate that when you are registering, & our ride coordinator will try to match you with people nearby who are interested in carpooling or offering rides.

WEATHER: Because weather can be unpredictable in the Berkshires, and because there are limited in-door spaces at the farm, please consider bringing a pop up tent if intermittent light rain is in the forecast. Please also check the weather before you leave home, so you can dress appropriately. We will provide a few pop-up tents. We will only reschedule this event if there is a greater than 60% chance of thunderstorms or heavy rain the morning of the event, and we will text you if that happens (so please let us know you cell phone number when you register).

DONATE OR BECOME A MONTHLY SUSTAINING MEMBER: Please donate $10-$20 to help assure Q-MoB can continue to offer more than 20 activities & multiple resources & services to rural queer men all over the region. If you attend 2 or more Q-MoB events/month, please consider becoming a monthly sustaining donor member. By donating $25, $50, $75, or $100/month you can help to sustain the incredible variety of activities, services, and resources Q-MoB provides and assure all of these activities are accessible to men regardless of their age, income, or ability, and best of all you can avoid having to donate at each and every event you attend. Monthly Sustaining Members pay only once a month and then can attend all our activities with no further donation.
