Python Education Summit 2016

I have years of experience developing data analysis, data processing and data handling solutions in multiple programming languages. My daily work is focused on using Python for data analysis and coaching and mentoring analysts in the use of Python and other programming languages.I have served as Chair and co-chair for the Python Education Summit at the Annual Python Conference (PyCon).In the local community, I founded (with a lot of help from my friends)PyHawaii, the Premier Python User Group in Hawaii.

<P>In 2016, PyCon will be holding its fourth annual Python Education Summit. The Summit is a gathering of teachers and educators focused on bringing coding literacy, through Python, to as broad a group of audiences as possible. We invite educators from all venues to consider joining the discussion, share insights, learn new techniques and tools and generally share their passion for education. We are looking for educators from many venues: authors; schools, colleges, universities; community-based workshops; online programs; and government. Not only will we have a wide array of full-blown talks, we will also have a rounds of lightning talks!</P>
<H2>Goals</H2>
<P>The goals of the Summit are to: (1) bring together educational leaders to learn more about each <SPAN>others'</SPAN> efforts and gain useful insight from them, (2) form connections that might foster future collaboration, (3) identify common issues and begin discussing ways to attack them, and (4) create an enhanced sense of unity, purpose and community among teachers of Python, wherever they might be. It is also our hope that the Summit will serve as catalyst for the rest of PyCon, to encourage even more interaction - hallway discussions, open spaces, lightning talks, and sprints.</P>
<P>Anyone attending this Summit will gain a broader understanding of approaches and issues related to teaching Python, have the opportunity to contribute to further discussion, and make contacts with other teachers of Python from across the community. A high school teacher might make contacts that allow her to enlist the support of a community-based program while a community volunteer might gain useful guidance on curriculum design.</P>
<H2>Schedule and Format</H2>
<P>The Education Summit will take place on Sunday, May 29, 2016.  This is the day before the main tracks of PyCon begin, so that Summit attendees will be able to attend all of the regular talks.  <SPAN>The Summit is scheduled to run from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm. There will be breaks in the morning/afternoon as well as one hour for lunch.</SPAN></P>
<P><SPAN>The morning session will include several invited speakers talking about diverse aspects of teaching Python. The afternoon session will be a dual track set of talks where attendees can pick and choose talks of the most interest to them.</SPAN></P>
<H2>Attending</H2>
<P><STRONG>All</STRONG> attendees must be registered attendees of PyCon (<A TARGET="_blank" HREF="https://us.pycon.org/2016/registration/" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">https://us.pycon.org/2016/registration/</A>). In addition to active involvement in the process of teaching Python, the main expectation of attendees is engagement. So please come willing to learn, to teach, and to participate.</P>
