Python Coding for Beginners

Rockville Science CenterRockville, MD
Saturday, Mar 28 from 12 pm to 3 pm
Overview

Level up your Python coding skills from scratch to pro in this hands-on, in-person event!

3-hours session on Saturday, March 28

Time: 12 - 3 pm

Age: 18 & up

Working professionals, career changers, and non-technical adults who are curious about the world of coding are invited to join us for this 3-hours workshop. It is specifically tailored for those with "tech anxiety" who want to join the digital economy but aren't sure where to start. This includes business owners and entrepreneurs who recognize that as AI continues to shift industries, reskilling is becoming essential.

The "Python Launchpad" is a high-impact, hands-on workshop designed to bridge the gap between wanting to code and actually writing the first line. This course focuses on the physical and digital setup of a developer environment within a supportive, in-person environment.

This is a lab-style session. Instead of a lecture, the instructor will mirror the students' actions on a projector, allowing for real-time troubleshooting. The curriculum is broken down into three phases:

  1. The Toolkit: Installation of VS Code and Python.
  2. The Mechanics: Opening folders, creating files, and using the terminal.
  3. The Experiment: Writing and modifying a basic automation script.

Everything will be broken down in a super friendly and practical way, real skills you can use right away.

Professional Application: By the end of the workshop, students will move from seeing coding as an abstract concept to identifying specific tasks in their current jobs that can be automated. They will leave with a fully functional development environment and the ability to draft simple pseudocode for real-world projects.

Instructor: Ravi Gupta is a software developer with a decade of experience, primarily working on government contracts for the Department of Education and the NIH. As a technology enthusiast, he stays current on industry trends and the evolving impact of technology on the economy and daily life. His goal is to help others navigate and prepare for these technological shifts.
