About this event

  • Event lasts 30 minutes
  • Small charity?
  • Tiny or non-existent communications team?
  • Overwhelmed by PR?
  • Do you feel that journalists don’t have time for you and there’s too much competition?

Can small charities really cut through the noise? Yes! And we have the answers for you.

Join Nicole Martin as she reveals the three steps your charity can take to create punchy PR pieces. She'll cover:

  • Strategy. Understand what you are trying to achieve, who you want to reach, what you want them to do, and the messages you want to communicate to them.

  • Channels. Explore how to go about finding the audiences you want to reach and consider whether newspapers, online platforms, TV, or podcasts are suitable for your charity.

  • Story. Learn what makes a story, how to build a media package, and then how to sell it to media!

About your host:

Nicole Martin is the former Head of Media for the global children's charity Theirworld, where she led the external communications for the organisation. Her skill is in helping organisations identify and tell stories that generate media attention, influence public opinion and drive change.

Last year she helped Theirworld achieve its strongest year for media, securing coverage for the charity's campaigns, projects, and spokespeople in leading broadcast outlets such as Good Morning Britain, Sky News, ITV News, and local BBC News, as well as many newspapers and magazines, including The Times and The Financial Times.

She managed all the media relations, including devising the media plan, writing press releases, gathering content for the media package, pitching, fielding media inquiries, coordinating interviews, and preparing briefing documents for spokespeople with key messages and agreed lines to take.
