Description

Did you know that the Fairfax County Police Department was created on July 1, 1940, by acts of the General Assembly on recommendations from Sheriff Eppa Kirby? Carl R. McIntosh was designated the first Chief of Police. His Department consisted of five newly sworn officers. The officers were: Traffic Sergeant Lewis M. Finks, Detective Sergeant Henry T. Magarity and Officers James Mahoney, Alton Poole and James Dodson.

Interested in learning more about the Department's creation and evolution from a 5-person organization to a nationally renowned Department of over 1700? Throughout 2015, the Police Department will host a series of lectures as part of the events which will celebrate the Department's Seventy-fifth (75th) Anniversary. These lectures are meant to demonstrate the Department's evolution throughout its' seventy-five year history. Chief Roessler invites and encourages you, and your family, to attend the lecture series to learn about this historical transformation along with meeting some of our great retirees.

The fourth lecture will be held on Monday, April 20, 2015. This will be a presentation given by current and former members of the 911 call center team.
