Gavin’s commitment to Open Science has evolved throughout his research career, and he now champions open and replicable research practices as a global board member of the Institute for Globally Distributed Open Research and Education (IGDORE). Since departing academia, Gavin has delved into the world of indie and alternative academia, seeking ways to continue his research independently.

What is Public Invention try to do?

We are trying to build a movement to "Invent in the public, for the Public." People deserve an easy way to do humanitarian work by researching technology without having to get admitted to a University or have a job at tech firm, at least for short periods.

How are you different than a University?

You don't have to take a test to become a Public Inventor. You don't have to pay us for us to give you valuable research experience on a functional team. We don't say no to anyone willing to be a mentor or volunteer 6 hours a week.
