Learn how thoughtful pruning supports plant health, structure, and productivity, with tips you can use in home and community gardens.
Join us for a hands-on workshop at Baltimore Free Farm where we’ll explore the art of pruning. We will focus primarily on fruit trees and trees and shrubs native to Maryland. We'll cover the technique, tools, and method behind pruning.

10:20-11 // pruning session 1 (demonstration followed by hands-on practice)
11-11:20 // quick break, q & a
11:20-12:00 // pruning session 2 (demonstration followed by hands-on practice)
12:00-1:00 // pruning session 3 (disperse to prune with supervision - time for individual questions)
Come ready to learn and leave with the confidence to prune many kinds of trees & shrubs!
Cost & Registration
- Pay-what-you-can (suggested $10–30)
- Registration encouraged to save your spot.
Dress for the weather and outdoor work. Tools & gloves will be provided, but feel free to bring your own tools (pruners & loppers) if you have them. We will have tools available for purchase.

Accessibility:
This site is not wheelchair accessible. The garden has uneven ground, slopes, and unpaved surfaces.
Location:
Meet at the Heart & Soil Sanctuary - 1522 Baldwin Street. Walk up Baldwin Street & look for the blue sign. Or enter under the Ash Street Garden sign, walk up the switchbacks and turn to the right.

Driving:
Park on Ash Street near 3510 Ash Street.
Public Transit:
Light Rail: Woodberry Station (about a 5-minute walk)
Bus: #94 Sinai Hospital bus to 36th St & Falls Rd
Walking from Bus Stop:
Walk downhill on 36th Street to Ash Street, turn left, and look for 3510 Ash Street. The garden is directly across the street.
