Overview

with Land Rights Now Campaign and Oxfam

In the face of interlocking crises, ancestral and territorial knowledge emerges as a means of resistance and a path to climate solutions grounded in care, reciprocity and collective governance. This session will focus on Indigenous Peoples, Afro-descendant communities, and local communities across Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean who are custodians of knowledge systems that are vital for the regeneration of ecosystems and the protection of human rights. Drawing on the latest data from the ALLIED network, which documents an increase in threats and attacks across the regions, the session will emphasize the urgent need to address the threats by various actors and highlight potential paths forward.

The panel is being organized by Oxfam and Land Rights Now Campaign.

Speakers for the session includes:

  • Joan Carling, Executive Director, Indigenous Peoples Rights International
  • Javier Garate, Senior US Policy Advisor, Global Witness
  • Whitney Melinard, President, Kopounoule Inc.
