About this event

  • 3 hours 30 minutes

Join Indiana Audubon (IAS) for a great summer morning of birding among the prairies and oaks at Prophetstown State Park. By late summer, the prairies are in full bloom, and many species of grassland songbirds are ramping up their breeding, or starting their second broods.

This trip will feature the great diversity of grassland birds that have been attracted to the DNR's active fire management program that has turned this park into a haven for birds in just 20 years of existance. The grasslands are home to nesting Grasshopper Sparrows, Blue Grosbeaks, Dickcissels, Bobwhite and Bell’s Vireos.

This field trip, led by IAS guide Angie Archer, will begin early to beat the heat at 7:30 a.m. ET at the Prairie View Picnic Area parking lot. The birding will last approximately 3-4 hours and conclude before lunch. Registration fees are $5 for Indiana Audubon members and $10 for non-members. Park admission is not covered in the ticket price.
