“The Promise Fashion Show" is an event dedicated to raising awareness about a new generation of creatives and the challenges faced by the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM) alumni class of 2024, the final class before the institution closes its doors. Although this is the last class from FIDM, their legacy will endure.
These talented students have vowed never to give up, even in the face of adversity, and to continue advancing fashion with sustainability and joy. The time and dedication they have invested in their garments are truly inspiring. This show celebrates their integrity, resilience, and creativity. Expect to see a stunning display of multicultural designs featuring art from Filipinos, Hawaiians, Hispanics, and other cultures worldwide.
The announcement of FIDM's closure had a significant impact on the students, affecting them financially, educationally, mentally, and emotionally. They were promised much more than they received, leading to many students dropping out and resulting in a smaller graduating class. They faced numerous challenges, including limited access to design and knit machinery, the discontinuation of the costuming program, and reduced lab hours for practicing on industrial equipment.
Despite these obstacles, the class of 2024 alumni remain resilient and ready to make their mark in the fashion world. We will continue to support their passion as their diverse cultural backgrounds and innovative solutions are poised to influence a new era of fashion.
