Ladders


Participants will be learning ladder terminology, ladder placement, and will practice "throwing" 14' and 24' ladders.

Search


Participants will be learning terminology and victim drag techniques. Participants will also practice doing a search "evolution" and will practice search with a victim rescue.

Forcible Entry


Participants will learn about the tools we use for forced entry, as well as how to size up a door. Participants will also practice forcing doors alone, as well as with a partner.

Welcome to Project Ignite 2024!


Come join us for 2 days of exciting hands-on training and an introduction to the firefighting career with the WFFD (Women Firefighters of Denver)! Participate in a group workout, perform general firefighting skills, receive an introduction to the EMS component of our profession, and take part in a Q&A session with the women of the Denver Fire Department.

Frequently asked questions

What should I wear?

Please wear looser fitting athletic clothing that will be comfortable to wear under firefighting gear. We will provide you with an event t-shirt to wear during check-in/registration. Please wear close-toed/closed-back athletic shoes, sandals/slides/slippers/crocs etc will NOT BE ALLOWED.

What should I bring?

Participants should bring a valid drivers license/identification.

How should I wear my hair?

Please wear your hair tied back or out of your face as much as possible. (As if you were going to the gym or to do a workout) You will be actively moving all day and wearing a helmet during specific skills stations.

Do I need to have prior fire knowledge?

No! This event does NOT require any prior knowledge or experience.

Will lunch be provided?

Yes! Lunch & snacks will be provided on both days. If you have any specific dietary restrictions please be prepared to bring your own lunch.

Will this event get me into an Academy or count towards my application to a fire department?

No. This event is separate from the application process and will not help towards any application you fill out. This event is purely educational and to provide exposure to the fire service for women. We do not provide any guarantee of being accepted to any fire department.

How do I get there?

A map of the facilities will be provided before the event with specific directions about entrance and where to park.

Are spectators or children allowed?

We do not encourage spectators, as you will be involved in tasks all day. No childcare will be provided.

If I am only able to attend one of the days can I still participate?

We have scheduled a progression of tasks, so we will NOT be allowing participants to only attend one day. If you have questions about a special circumstance please contact us at wffd@dfdwomen.org and we will do our best to accommodate you.

Will transportation be provided?

We will not be providing transportation to and from the event. Please use public transportation/Uber or other ride-share services.
