Program evaluation serves as a tool to demonstrate your nonprofit’s performance, increase its abilities for obtaining funds or future planning, and fulfill organizational objectives. By communicating the results of the evaluation, your organization will inform its staff, board, clients/customers, funders, the other stakeholders about the benefits and effectiveness of your organization’s services and programs. This interactive workshop is for executive directors, program staff, and board members who want to strengthen their skills in understanding the role and purpose of evaluation. This workshop will explain the need for program evaluation, what evaluation can provide and what happens when nonprofits do not effectively evaluate programs and services. The session will feature practical evaluation techniques and best practices to determine whether programs are having the intended effects. Participants will learn how to use evaluation as a tool for decision-making, strategic planning, reporting, or program modification. Effective tools to develop and implement performance measurement and management strategies will be shared.During this session, participants will have the opportunity to identify obstacles to the evaluation process, and learn the steps for creating an evaluation culture within their organization, and learn about methodology, data collection tools, and basic analysis. The workshop includes hands-on work to developing an evaluation plan, including an outcomes-based evaluation plan, and question development. The INS Group will provide resources to help an organization establish an intentional path that will lead to effective delivery programs and services. Learning ObjectivesAt the end of the workshop, participants will:<ul><li>understand basics of evaluation planning including terms/definitions – inputs, outputs, outcomes, etc.</li></ul><ul><li>understand the critical components of program evaluation in terms of outcomes.</li></ul><ul><li>articulate ways to develop or improve their organization’s evaluation process.</li></ul><ul><li>identify structures that are already in place that support ongoing evaluations.</li></ul><ul><li>distinguish the various types of evaluation plans.</li></ul><ul><li>understand and develop a framework for program evaluation for their organization and methods for measuring/tracking outcomes.</li></ul><ul><li>develop an effective and relevant evaluation dissemination plan.</li></ul>
