<h3>Description</h3>We are delighted to be back at the beautiful third floor loft of McRoskey Mattress Company on Market Street. We hope you will join us for the first concert of our season as we explore repertoire that brings together percussion and different uses of the human voice. Our program, Light &amp; Shadow, renders visceral emotions through stories of war and gun violence. However, we are also reminded about the feeling of hope that sparks as we move past these traumas. Featured on the program is the beautifully crafted 4 Terry Severhill Poems written for us by our friend and colleague,<a href="http://kylehovatter.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"> Kyle Hovatter</a>, Yaz Lancaster’s striking and powerful dis[armed], and the harmonious Symmetry and Sharing by Andrea Mazzariello.We are excited to share the stage with our dear friends who will be joining us as guest percussionists: Jack Van Geem, Mckenzie Camp, Mika Nakamura, and Justin Sun.

<h3>About Us</h3>Prism PercussionPrism Percussion, a San Francisco based percussion duo, was founded in 2018 by Divesh Karamchandani and Elizabeth Hall. The dynamic duo regularly performs works by underrepresented composers and demonstrates repertoire for the expressive pallet of sounds available to percussionists. Prism Percussion's presence on stage is "both musically and visually stunning" affirms Jessica Balik of San Francisco Classical Voice. Karamchandani and Hall's mutual passion for percussion chamber music and excitement for collaborating with composers and other musicians led them to create this duo. They enjoy fostering the creation of new works and commissioned three new works in their first year as a duo.Karamchandani and Hall met at the Zeltsman Marimba Festival in 2011 and bonded over their love of the marimba. Their friendship grew and their paths crossed again when they both moved to San Francisco to attend the San Francisco Conservatory of Music for their masters degrees. They performed together throughout college and professionally with diverse groups and concerts including Mercury Soul, One Found Sound, The Hot Air Music Festival, Post:Ballet, Elevate Ensemble, Calvary Choir, Golden Gate Symphony, and Cantare Con Vivo and are looking forward to continuing their creative collaboration with this duo and other artists.

Divesh KaramchandaniDivesh Karamchandani is a San Francisco based percussionist and educator performing regularly in chamber and large orchestral projects throughout the Greater Bay Area. He is co-founder of Prism Percussion, a duo aimed at showcasing repertoire for nonstandard instruments and performing works by underrepresented composers. Karamchandani is the Principal Percussionist of Opera Modesto as well as One Found Sound, a San Francisco conductorless chamber orchestra. His recent performances include Monterey Symphony, San Francisco Contemporary Music Players, Pacific Chamber Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony, Sacramento Philharmonic &amp; Opera, Music in the Mountains, and the Academy Orchestra. He can also be seen performing regularly with Cantare Con Vivo, Golden Gate Symphony, Mercury Soul, Merced Symphony and other regional orchestras around San Francisco. Karamchandani graduated in 2012 from California State University, Stanislaus with a Bachelors of Music in percussion performance and instrumental music education and graduated in 2014 from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music with a Masters of Music in percussion performance. He studied under the tutelage of Jack Van Geem, Jacob Nissly, James Lee Wyatt III, Chris Woodham and Allen Brown. Karamchandani is equally passionate about teaching as he is about performing. He is the percussion coach with the San Francisco Symphony’s Music and Mentors program which provides weekly group lessons for music students in San Francisco public schools. He also coaches at several other high schools throughout the Bay Area. Karamchandani recently joined the faculty at West Valley College as an Applied Music Instructor of Percussion. Elizabeth HallElizabeth Hall is a San Francisco based percussionist and vocalist. She is enthusiastic about chamber music and contemporary music and has played with many groups including San Francisco Opera, Santa Cruz Symphony, One Found Sound, San Francisco Contemporary Music Players, and Adesso Ensemble. She is co-founder of Prism Percussion, a duo which explores the expressive colors of percussive sound and seeks to champion works by contemporary composers. Elizabeth regularly plays with and has recently recorded an album with Americana duo, Gutter Swan. She can also be seen playing cajon, singing, and jamming with the North Beach Ramblers. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Bowling Green State University and her Master’s degree from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and has studied with Jack Van Geem, Trey Wyatt, Roger Schupp, Isabelle Huang, and Bill Bleyle.
