About this event

  • Event lasts 5 hours

Participants will create a four-color print (yellow, red, blue, and black) print using linoleum. Each layer (starting with yellow) will be hand printed, and layers will be subsequently printed one on top of the other (from yellow, to red, to blue, and finally black). This process will involve carving material from one piece of linoleum, and a registration system will be used to ensure each color layer aligns to complete an edition of four prints. Imagery for the print will primarily be abstract, but some representative elements can be used as well, such as natural patterns and textures. Participants can create their own designs prior to the workshop or simply make up the design on the spot. Participants can also collaborate with each other to make prints using more than one linoleum piece.

Participants will learn about the linoleum printmaking process, and about two-dimensional and color design/theory. An instructive PowerPoint and videos will be shown, along with a safety video and demo.

Note: sharp tools will be used, so participants will need to maintain good safety practices. No previous experience necessary. Recommended for16 years and up.

The following supplies are included in the workshop registration fee:
-6” x 8” piece of linoleum
-printmaking paper (one large sheet divided in four)

The workshop will provide the following tools and materials for participants to use:
-registration jig
-water soluble ink
-linocut cutting tools
-hand printing tools
-block holder

The Art Farm is our private home and studio perched on the edge of Allen County in rural northeast Indiana.  We open our studio each spring during the Rural Studio Tour, a self guided tour of several artist studios in the area.  Each December we transform our studio into a Holiday Pop Up Gallery featuring the works of invited artists both local and national.  We also host a series of art workshops and other special events throughout the year.
