Who: The American Planning Assocation - New York Metropolitan Chapter in partnership with with APA - LGBTQ &amp; Planning National Division, Queer Urbanists, and Stantec who we thank for their generous sponsorship.What: <a href="https://www.nyclgbtsites.org/" title="https://www.nyclgbtsites.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">LGBT Historic Sites Project Walking Tour</a> &amp; ReceptionWhere: New York, NY – Tour starts in the West Village and ends at Slate NY Lounge in Chelsea.When: Saturday, June 22, 2024. Reception to follow the tour @ 4-6PM. UPDATE: The 2-4 PM Tour is cancelled due to extreme heat. We look forward to seeing many of you at the happy hour.Why: The historical walking tour and reception will take place during Pride Month, when LGBTQIA+New Yorkers, visitors from out of state, and visitors from across the globe flock to New York City to participate in this month-long celebration that marks the Stonewall Uprising and the quest for human rights for all individuals. This year marks the 55th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising. The historical walking tour and reception will bring attention to the many contributions of the LGBTQ community to New York City and its built environment. Potential stops on the tour include the Stonewall Inn, the NYC AIDS Memorial, the LGBT Community Center, and the Stantec-designed LGBTQ Memorial Site. The event will promote dialogue between professionals representing planning, engineering, and other disciplines and deepen our understanding of how we can work together to honor our past, inform our present, and plan for a more just and equitable future. Organizers anticipate that at least 100 people will attend this event.
