Are you curious about how Leather culture ties into queer history? Maybe you identify as Leather already or are curious about joining the community? This event will bring together queer and leather folks from all walks of life. This will be a safe space for LGBTQ+ people, Leatherfolk, and Furries/Pups to be yourselves. The goal of the event is to be an approachable introduction for those who are curious about leather, as well as an opportunity for long-time leather community members to come together. This event will be raising money for the Leather Quilt Project, a traveling piece of Leather History, and Soft Animal, a Chattanooga-based LGBTQ+ nonprofit.

There will be bootblacking, a cigar social outside, vendors, raffles, and, of course, your chance to see the Leather Quilt for its first appearance in Tennessee. Various organizers, including Soft Animal and The Leather Quilt Project, are working together to create this opportunity for one day only on June 30th, 2024 from 2 pm to 8 pm. Please see the FAQ below for further information on these parts of the event. You are welcome to come and go throughout the event if you need to, and you can check the event schedule to plan ahead. We will be hosting a virtual fundraiser leading up to the event date to cover costs, and there will be more information on that soon!

We look forward to seeing you there!

Frequently asked questions

Is this part of official Pride events?

This event is not associated with Chattanooga Pride and is simply an opportunity to celebrate Pride Month together.

Why 21+?

While this is an educational event and nudity will not be allowed, we will still be discussing kink.

What’s Bootblacking?

Bootblacking services will be available during the showing of the Leather Quilt. Bootblacking is the cleaning, care, and repair of leather gear/items, but most commonly seen is boots and other footwear. (cont'd below)

(Bootblacking cont'd)

Bootblacks are leather people or lovers of leather who like to provide service to care and share a connective moment with the owners of leather who sit in their chair/space. Cleaning of leather can be as simple as a light wash and condition, (cont'd below)

(Bootblacking cont'd)

to as complex as stripping the color of the boot and re-dye/polish the boot depending on time/request of care for the leather item. Bootblacking can be seen as a “sort of scene” and is requested to be treated as such while Bootblacking is happening for respect of the scene/space.

What is a Cigar Social?

A Cigar Social is an event or gathering of cigar lovers and their service types who like to smoke/prep cigars. It is a social event that is often encouraged to meet and connect with others and/or make new connections if you are open to it. (cont'd below)

(Cigar Social cont'd)

Often a selection of Cigars will be provided for donation or a small fee that goes to the event or a fundraiser organization. In regard to service, a service type/submissive is often available to assist with providing cigar tools or lighting your cigar if you wish/choose. (cont'd below)

Lastly, some cigar play (ash play, human ashtray service, etc.) may be present in this space. This will take place outdoors in the backyard.

What’s the Leather Quilt?

The Leather Quilt Project was originally conceived on November 3rd, 2005 by Master Steve of the Butchmanns organization. The Leather Quilt is a collection of clubs, organizations, dungeon spaces, leather houses, and title patches that are on leather squares/panels that are accepted (cont'd below)

to be added to the quilt. Initially it started with a dozen panels in 2006, expanded to 80 panels by 2017, and hit a milestone of the 200th panel by “FIST” that was added to the Leather Quilt at SELF in June of 2023. Please come join us to see the whole Leather Quilt for the first time(cont'd below)
