Keynote Presenter
David Willard works with ten counties (Alleghany, Ashe, Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Stokes, Surry, Watauga, Wilkes, and Yadkin) to establish and implement tobacco control, prevention and education programs and policies to prevent deaths and health problems related to the use of tobacco products. He has been in this role since 2012.

Join us to learn how early tobacco use predicts future substance abuse and explore strategies to reduce youth access. Discover North Carolina’s retailer permitting efforts and new data from Surry County via our recent Counter Tools Community Mapping of retailers. The audience will learn more about a recently completed retail mapping sample that allows for visualizations of local sales locations and density.
Objectives
· Identify the age group most at risk of initiating tobacco use, including e-cigarettes, and explain why early prevention is critical.
· Describe the primary sources through which youth access e-cigarettes.
· Understand how state licensing strategies can reduce youth access to tobacco products.
· Learn about the connection between youth tobacco initiation and future substance use.
· Presentation of new retail density data for Surry County.
