About this event

  • 46 days 1 hour

Welcome! Press On Running is back for our 12th year to bring you Press On Summer Running Camp. We are excited to bring you a memorable, safe, summer running experience full of fast runs and good times

This program will focus on the conditioning of runners of all levels--modifying workouts to fit their needs. It will focus on the building of a base mileage and offer speed and agility training that will translate to sports beyond cross country. As the summer progresses there will be an introduction of workouts that range from fartleks, tempos/thresholds, and hills - once each runner's fitness level calls for it. Focus will be given to body strengthening through calisthenics and stretching to ensure a perfectly developed runner and help them stay injury free.

Rebecca Rodriguez-Michalak started running in 1995 at Our Lady of Lourdes Academy where she helped lead her team to the school's first state title in cross-country. She attended FIU on a full running scholarship where she held the 5K indoor record from 2000-2007 and the steeplechase record from 2002-2006. She started her coaching career at Doral Academy and then found her way back to her alma mater in 2005. During her time at Lourdes they have had 3 state runner up finishes. She credits their success to the former coaches who established the program and to the parents and runners who dedicate their time and commitment to each other and the team.

Eric Pino has been involved in the Miami running community for 20 years. He spent 10 years running for programs like St. Kevin Catholic School, Miami Runners, and Christopher Columbus High School and the last 10 years coaching at the high school level. During his time at Columbus they won 3 straight state titles with him as the assitant coach and in his 2 years at Coral Reef the boys came in 2nd and the girls 7th. The success that his teams have experienced is attributed to their dedication and willingness to improve.

Danny Areces is the head Cross Country and Track and Field Coach at Christopher Columbus High School. Danny's successful high school running career at Columbus has afforded him the opportunity to continue progressing as a runner at Florida International University. At FIU, Danny quickly asserted himself as one of the team's top runners. He would become captain of the team and lead the Golden Panthers to some of their most successful seasons as of late. As a coach, Danny coached the Columbus Cross Country team to win the 5th State Championship in the program's history. He has also been the distance coach for 2 State Champion Track and Field teams at Columbus.
