In this session, Dr. Joseph VanderStel will share practical strategies for developing a confident voice, expressing yourself without fear, and connecting with your audience. Through hands-on exercises and expert guidance, you’ll learn how to transform nervous energy into poise and communicate ideas authentically and effectively.
Dr. VanderStel is a music theorist, software developer, and educator with a passion for helping people level up their public speaking abilities. He earned his doctorate in music theory from the Eastman School of Music, receiving the 2023 Alfred Mann Dissertation Award for his research on syncopation in 20th-century American popular music. He has taught computational music theory at MIT, published in Psychology of Music and the Journal of New Music Research, and presented at major international conferences.
Currently, Joseph serves as Vice President of Technology at Artusi, an edtech company producing interactive music theory and aural skills textbooks. He also leads workshops on public speaking and leadership across the United States, having helped hundreds of students improve their presentation skills.
