This workshop will be led by NCRCD Prescribed Fire Operations Coordinator, Haley Coopergard

Location: To Be Announced; in Lake City-Grizzly Hill Firewise Community area

Description: Hands-on workshop at a landowner’s property, where they plan on burning. Learn about the steps to prepare for a prescribed burn including planning, preparing the site, and the permitting process. Learn about and practice locating a burn site, building control lines, what tools to use and when, and how to prepare a site for safe burning using techniques like selective pruning and ladder fuel removal.

This workshop may turn into a Conduct a Burn Workshop! Attendees will be notified in advance if this occurs.

Vegetation Type: This area is a mixed Ponderosa pine-Black oak woodland with Bear Clover, Manzanita, Madrone understory

Please Bring:

  • Water, snacks
  • Your favorite tool (rake, McLeod, loppers). We will have tools to borrow too.
  • Work gloves. Long pants, long-sleeved shirt, sturdy shoes, and rain gear if it might rain lightly
  • Whatever you may need for a few hour class
