<ul><li>IMPORTANT: Unit leadership approval is required to participate.</li></ul><ul><li>Minimum of 6 students to confirm a class. If this is not met, the class will be cancelled and the students will be offered the option to transfer to another class.</li></ul>

<h3>DESCRIPTION</h3>This 3-hour workshop is tailored for experienced clinical staff transitioning to preceptors. It aims to equip them with foundational knowledge, practical strategies, and essential communication skills to effectively mentor, teach, evaluate, and document preceptees, as well as promptly address safety concerns.

<h3>OBJECTIVES</h3>Upon completion of the course, the participant will be able to:<ul><li>Apply principles of adult learning theory to their precepting practice by adapting teaching methods to the specific needs and experiences of their preceptee.</li><li>Demonstrate effective communication techniques, including the use of structured feedback models, to provide constructive and specific performance evaluations to their preceptee.</li><li>Describe how implicit biases (i.e., generational differences, attitudes or opinions regarding - race, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, socioeconomic status or other characteristics) can impact a preceptor-preceptee relationship and develop strategies to bridge gaps and foster a collaborative learning environment.</li><li>Accurately evaluate and document preceptee performance, competently utilize the Kahuna platform for tracking, and clearly define the steps for escalating immediate patient safety concerns to unit leadership.</li></ul>

<h3>CONTINUING EDUCATION</h3>This continuing education (CE) course is offered through Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford by the Center for Professional Excellence and Inquiry (CPEI). Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN), Provider Number 9713.Center for Professional Excellence and Inquiry is accredited as provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation (ANCC). Provider Number P0668.<ul><li>Number of BRN Contact Hours: 3.0</li><li>Number of ANCC Contact Hours: 3.0</li></ul>Nurses:<ul><li>While CA BRN credits are accepted for your RN license renewal, ANCC credits may only apply to specific certifications. To ensure your credits are valid, please verify with your state board or accrediting body whether they accept ANCC-approved continuing education.</li></ul>Other Medical Professionals:<ul><li>Contact your professional board to determine if they accept continuing education (CE) credits approved by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).</li></ul>Earning CE Credits<ul><li>To be eligible for Continuing Education (CE) credits, participants are required to attend the entire course or event and complete the course evaluation. Partial credit cannot be granted for late arrivals or early departures.</li></ul>Certificate Issuance and Record Keeping<ul><li>CE certificates will be distributed within 30 days of course completion. Participants are responsible for maintaining their personal records of accrued CE documentation. Certificates must be retained for four years following the course date and are valid for a single use toward registered nurse license renewal.</li></ul>

<h3>REGISTRATION and FEES</h3><ul><li>This FREE training is exclusively offered to Stanford Medicine Children's Health employees.</li><li>Stanford Children's Employees (with no CE credits) = FREE</li><li>Stanford Children's Employees (with CE credits) = $15 (plus service fees = $17.44)</li><li>The Center for Professional Excellence and Inquiry (CPE&amp;I) accepts card payments ONLY for course fees and materials. Transfer of Funds are no longer accepted. Employees seeking reimbursement for educational expenses must obtain their manager's approval through Bright Horizon. Employees must submit proof of completion and receipts upon completion of a course in order to be reimbursed. <h3>CANCELLATION and REFUND</h3><ul><li>FULL REFUND for cancellations at least 2 weeks prior to class date.</li><li>NO REFUND for cancellations less than 5 days prior to class date.</li><li>For SCH Employees: NO SHOWS or cancellations on the day of class are considered unexcused absences. Managers will be notified. A medical note may be required in the event of illness or medical emergencies.</li><li>Cancellation by CPEI: Schedules, venues and details are subject to change and cancellation. Registered participants will be provided with as much advance notice as possible if this should occur.
