Preaching Christian Formation and Hope to Lead United Methodist Congregations into a New Day

The disaffiliations and membership loss we have experienced in the UMC has been painful, but it also now offers us the opportunity to look to the future of congregational and denominational life anew. Rev. Dr. Allen will lead us in a discussion of different strategies preachers might use to address these situations, approaches that will bring the gospel to bear in a way that offers individuals and communities a stronger Wesleyan identity and hope rooted in the eschatological vision of the good news of Jesus Christ. For example, he will explore the gifts that Advent and the lectionary offer preachers in this new day as we point to the future of Rio Texas Conference and of the United Methodist Church.Leader: The Rev. Dr. O. Wesley Allen, Jr., is the Lois Craddock Professor of Homiletics at Perkins School of Theology, Southern Methodist University.
