Pre-Apprentice Power Line Worker Application

Program Overview
This particular training will provide skilled/safe applicants for Alabama Power, line work contractors and other utility companies. The training will include the following: Safety, Pole Climbing, Basic Electricity, Working at Heights, Mechanized Equipment, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Basic Line Construction, Interpersonal Skills, and Resume Writing/Interviewing Skills. 
 Line-Worker Program Eligibility Requirements and Essential Job Functions Include:
• Class is 8am-4pm Monday through Friday most weeks, June 8, 2020 through August 14, 2020 at the Bessemer campus of Lawson State Community College.
• Must be 18 years old at time of application 
• Submit to drug screenings
• Climbing and working suspended above ground up to 100 or 200 ft depending on type of Line Work
• Students weigh no more than 280 pounds due to OSHA restrictions of equipment
• Physical fitness that requires lifting equipment weighing 50-pounds or more
• Ability to earn Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate
• Ability to earn OSHA 10 Safety Certificate
• Program cost is approximately $4,150 plus cost of boots and other miscellaneous fees such as CDL Permit, testing fees etc... (Financial assistance and scholarships may be available)
