We’re presenting a panel of postdoc-to-industry professionals who will share their career journeys to Biotech, BioPharma, and High Tech. From the shared experiences of former postdocs, attendees will learn about:• Possible career pathways in industry• Successful career development strategies and resources• Approaches for navigating challenges

Kamran BinaeePronouns: he/himEmail: kbinaee@magicleap.comPostdoc Institution: University of Nevada, Reno, Department of NeuroscienceCurrent Role: Senior Computer Vision Researcher at Magic LeapKamran is an imaging scientist working at the intersection of eye tracking and visual perception especially for VR/AR systems. He’s currently a computer vision researcher at Magic Leap, one of the leading companies in the XR space. Kamran did his PhD in imaging science at RIT and postdoc at UNR. During his training he has taken internship positions in industry i.e. at NVIDIA where he conducted research on the effect of gaming engine properties on gamers performance. His work has been published in the Journal of Vision, ACM, IEEE, SIGGRAPH Asia and US patent.

David Ebenezer Pronouns: he/himEmail: davidlenin@gmail.comPostdoc Institution: University of Illinois at ChicagoCurrent Role: Senior Scientist, Immunology &amp; Respiratory Diseases Research Department, Boehringer Ingelheim PharmaceuticalsDavid Ebenezer is a Senior Scientist in the Immunology &amp; Respiratory diseases research department at Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc, Ridgefield, CT, USA. He received his PhD in Biochemistry &amp; Molecular Genetics from University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) in 2017. After a two year Postdoctoral fellowship in Pharmacology at UIC , he joined Boehringer Ingelheim, in 2019, as a Senior Scientist. He is currently the lab head in the Disease Positioning group where his team develops molecular and immunological approaches to better understand the disease biology in Systemic Sclerosis. He also leads drug development projects and builds translational research packages to support advancement of dermal and lung therapeutic programs. Kanika GhaiPronouns: she/herPostdoc Institution: Emory University, Atlanta GACurrent Role: Assistant Director, Intellectual Property, Proteovant TherapeuticsKanika is a patent agent who manages intellectual property matters at an NYC-based biotech startup company, Proteovant Therapeutics, which focuses on inventing novel protein degraders. Prior to that, she had worked in top IP law firms where she prosecuted life sciences patents for a range of clients, including universities, small and mid-sized biotech firms, and pharmaceutical companies. In a past life, she played with chicken and mouse retinas in university labs. After getting her Bachelors and Masters degrees in Life Sciences from St. Xavier’s College in Mumbai, India, she got her PhD in Neuroscience from The Ohio State University where she delved the role of Notch signaling in retinal regeneration, and a post-doc from Emory University, where she studied retinal circadian rhythms. While at Emory, she meandered into patent law after a stint as an intern in the Office of Technology Transfer which exposed her to various professions outside of academia. Kanika lives in Hoboken NJ with her family. In her spare time, she loves taking in the sights and sounds of the streets of NYC, hiking and camping, baking interesting breads, enjoying her kids’ antics, and discovering new (and old) music on Spotify.

Mohammad Jalalirad Pronouns: he/himPostdoc Institution: University of Montreal and Mayo ClinicCurrent Role: Scientist, Cancer Biology at Ambagon Therapeutics Mohammad Jalalirad, PhD, completed his doctorate at McGill University in Experimental Medicine before completing two postdocs, first at the University of Montreal and then at the Mayo Clinic. In 2021, he moved into industry in a Scientist position developing small molecule drugs to target oncogenic proteins. His expertise includes oncology, molecular pharmacology, gene editing, and biochemistry. Additionally, he is an ambitious scientist with experience working independently and in teams. Mohammad will be able to share the differences between academia and industry work with current postdocs, as well as thoughts on the pros and cons of each.

Muhammed Walugembe Pronouns: he/himEmail: mwalugembe@dnaswinegenetics.com/mwalugem86@gmail.comPostdoc Institution: Iowa State University Current Role: Geneticist at DNA Genetics, Columbus, NE, USA Dr. Muhammed Walugembe is a graduate of Iowa State University (ISU) and obtained both his masters and Ph.D. in Animal Science in 2013 and 2017, respectively. Dr. Walugembe subsequently did a three-year postdoc at ISU with his research focusing on Livestock Genomics. He is currently a geneticist with DNA Genetics in Columbus, Nebraska, USA, and his main focus is on Research and Development for the Company. In addition to this role, Dr. Walugembe is working with ISU in a P&amp;S Temporary role on a collaborative USAID Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Genomics to Improve Poultry project conducted in four countries: Ghana, Tanzania, Kenya, and the USA. The project focuses on the Newcastle Disease (ND) Virus, a disease that has a global threat to the poultry industry, especially in low and middle-income countries.
