Welcome to our 4th annual Positive Aging Summit. This event is focused on supporting the health and wellness of older adults and caregivers.

We are excited to bring back the 4th Annual Positive Aging Summit! We hope you are able to join this free event catered to older adults to focus on healthy living.H ere are the featured guest speakers for these two days:--------------------------Wednesday, May 29th, 2024----------------------------------10AM-11AM: Malene Stewart, Professor, School of Community Studies, Faculty of Applied Health &amp; Community Studies, Sheridan CollegeIn this talk, Malene will share her firsthand experiences navigating the complexities of this journey while trying to help her children understand and cope with the transitions that come with a loved one’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis. She will share clips of a documentary project she is working on while weaving in personal accounts and stories they’ve gathered along the way.11AM-12PM: Juanita Butler, Caregiver Education Counsellor, CHATSJoin us in learning more about how caregivers can improve their wellness and increase their capacity to care for their loved one. We will discuss caregiver wellness, ambiguous loss and grief in dementia, as well as self-care for caregivers.12PM-1PM: Emma Bender, Schlegel-UW Research Institute for AgingPreesenting on the new culturally-adapted dementia resources for the South Asian, Chinese, and Italian communities developed as part of the Forward with Dementia project. --------------------------Thursday, May 30th, 2024----------------------------------10AM-11AM: Diana Gonzalez, MSW, RSW, PsychotherapistLearn about the importance of adult sleep. Learn how to differentiate between normal sleep patterns and insomnia. We will discuss the common signs and symptoms of insomnia, as well as ways to identify when your sleep troubles may be due to other factors. Walk away with strategies for improving your sleep hygiene and creating healthy sleep habits to help you get a better night's rest.11AM-12PM: Nellie V Groenenberg, Professor and Coordinator with the Social Service Worker Gerontology ProgramLearn more about Positive Approaches to Care (PAC) and the differences of approach compared to the Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA).
