About this event

Join us for PORTALS, a celebratory reading honoring the writers of the Get Me Embodied and hear work created across the workshop's 4 weeks of themes. On this special night, the writers will transport us through different, metaphysical stages of Black femme presence: from time travel and shapeshifting, to possession, haunting and so much more. We're also uplifting workshop bae, artist and aspiring author Alisha Acquaye, who curated and created this workshop. They will share exclusive excerpts from their first, in-progress, essay and poetry collection.

Wear something that makes you feel magical. Enter with an open heart and curious mind.

PORTALS is hosted by The Free Black Women's Library and NY Writers Coalition. Meet us at 226 Marcus Garvey Boulevard, 6-8 p.m.

NOTE: Masks are strongly encouraged for attendees as COVID-19 cases are on the rise.

*****

NY Writers Coalition's Black Writers Program is a curated literary experience in which Black writers can generate, develop, and share work in a supportive environment. The program includes themed generative writing workshops, drop-in sessions for prompt-based workshops, professional development panels and lectures, and a community of Black writers to share it all with. We aim to create a writing community that is thoughtful, inspiring, and accessible to Black writers at all stages of the artistic process. Whether you’re a seasoned writer with formal training, a new writer eager to hone your voice, or somewhere in between, all Black writers are welcome and encouraged to sign up.
