If you are familiar with Excel, it is time to learn SQL. Structured Querying Language or SQL (pronounced sequel or S.Q.L), is one of the most common tools used to manipulate and manage data. It is a great skill to learn after getting comfortable with Excel, and knowing it will level-up your professional skills. Excel can get pretty slow when working with large datasets - SQL is your better tool to extract relevant and useful data from a large dataset. While SQL has traditionally been the specialty of highly-trained data analysts and programmers, it is finding greater acceptance among non-technical personnel in many industries. Learning SQL is easier than you might think and the benefits of doing so far outweigh the time investment. Take the first step towards mastering SQL in this pop up workshop with Turing School. <h3>Workshop Overview</h3>In this beginner-level workshop, you will use SQL to analyze data sets of popular books and the best brands of ramen. During this introductory event, you will get a feel for a day-in-the life of the workflow of a Data Analyst and leave the class with the fundamental skills necessary to explore a dataset using SQL. We designed this workshop for people who are interested in learning more about Data Analytics. <a href="https://turing.io/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Turing School of Software &amp; Design</a> currently does not teach SQL, but our graduates sometimes use these skills in their careers and we’d like to explore them with you in a series of pop up workshops. If you enjoy working with numbers and using data to tell a story - check out this event! Schedule<ul><li>Online class on Saturday, July 24 from 10:00am - 12:30pm MST </li><li>You will receive the Zoom link for the class upon registration. </li></ul>Attendees should be comfortable with navigating the basic operations of a computer. You will be expected to use the following skills: typing, copying and pasting text, navigating the internet through a browser, and conversing via a video chat.Additional information is located at the bottom of this page in the FAQ section.<h3>Why You, Why Now?</h3>If you&#x27;ve been curious about working in the tech industry or are thinking about changing careers, but aren’t sure what industry you’d like to join, this class is for you to explore languages you are curious about. There are no prerequisites for this course, so just bring your creative and playful mind (and a computer!) to this interactive workshop!Former Turing School students have included warehouse managers, pastry chefs, baristas, customer support representatives, veterans, product managers, stay-at-home parents, and even former professional sport players. How will I connect to the virtual workshop?You will need a computer for this workshop that can connect to the internet and operate Zoom. We recommend that you download Zoom now to ensure it is compatible with your computer and that you are using the most updated version. 2. When will I receive the Zoom link? Zoom information will be sent to you through Eventbrite after you register for the event. 3. What equipment should I have for this online workshop?A laptop or computer that can connect to the internet via a web browser. We recommend using headphones to minimize distractions and ensure you can access the information. It will also be beneficial to find a quiet working space where you will be able to focus during the duration of the course.4. I want to attend but I can&#x27;t afford it. Are there any scholarships available?We are offering scholarships on a limited basis for students with financial need. Please contact trycoding@turing.edu for more information. 5. Are kids welcome?This is a course designed for professional level adults and is not created with kids in mind. We ask that individuals under age 17 years old do not register and/or attend. 6. I’m already a little bit practiced in SQL - will I still benefit from this course?This course is designed for people who are brand new to SQL and have never tried it before. That doesn’t mean that those with some experience aren’t welcome or will not benefit from it, but some parts may be a review. 7. What is the refund policy?If for any reason you can’t make it to the event, tickets are refundable up to 24 hours before. If the event has passed then we are happy to transfer your ticket to any upcoming<a href="https://turing.io/try-coding/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"> Try Coding workshop</a>. 8. I am interested in Turing’s Back-End or Front-End Software Development programs, will this class be a good fit for me to attend? Probably not. This workshop will cover languages and specific material relevant to Data Analytics, not Back-End or Front-End Programming. If you are interested in our Software Development programs, please register for one of our Try Coding Back-End, Front-End workshops or Weekend Workshops. However, all of our Try Coding workshops are taught in instructional styles that mirror our teaching practices for our Software Development program. Coming to this workshop will give you a good feel for what a day in the life of a Turing School student would look like. 9. Why is Turing School offering Data Analytics Try Coding workshops if the school doesn’t teach Data Analytics? Since 2014, we have a proven track record launching over 1,000 careers in software development and related technical roles. We’re conducting a series of Try Coding workshops outside of Back-End &amp; Front-End Software Development to better understand what languages and technical skills our community is interested in learning more about. 10. I am brand new to tech and am unsure what field I would like to study - what type of Try Coding workshop should I attend? We recommend trying as many different Try Coding workshops as possible if you are just starting out on your journey into a career transition into tech. Attending a workshop, building a project and spending the time deep diving into a potential new field will be one of the best ways to determine whether Software Development, Data Analytics or another related technical role is the right fit for you. *Cancellation of events are dependent on a variety of factors including registrations, inclement weather and pressing needs that come up. If we do cancel your Try Coding workshop, you will be notified more than 24 hours in advance, credited back your registration payment and sent the schedule of other events. During the workshop, participants are asked to follow instructor directions and conduct themselves respectfully in all interactions. If you are a repeated disturbance, our instructors reserve the right to remove you from the class.
