POOL (No Water)

Creative License was founded by local theater artists Aaron Holbritter and Casey Polomaine in March of 2014.Over a plate of chicken parm and a slice of tomato pie, Holbritter and Polomaine discussed the need for a theatrical group in the Capital Region that would break down the barriers between the artistic world and the general public.A group that would focus on the written word and the honest, rich performances of its actors.They wrote down 3 questions on a napkin-What will we call ourselves?What will we present to an audience?Where will we call home? The answers to those questions are still taking shape, but from that napkin, and from years of collective experience and passion, Creative License was born.

Creative License

A famous artist invites her old friends to her luxurious new home. For one night only, the group is back together. But celebrations come to an abrupt end when the host suffers an horrific accident. As the victim lies in a coma, an almost unthinkable plan starts to take shape: could her suffering be their next work of art? Pool (No Water) is a visceral and shocking new play about the fragility of friendship and the jealousy and resentment inspired by success. Join Creative License and Albany Center Gallery as they partner to present this intense exploration into the mind of the artist. "Mr. Ravenhill’s writing has a hypnotic beauty itself, as the locked chambers of each of the character’s minds are slowly exposed... The play is full of perceptive commentary on the tension between affection and antipathy among friends — and the interior tensions in the individual soul between self-love and self-hate. "Its sneaky, almost guilty-pleasure appeal is linked to our natural identification with these attractive, articulate young men and women as they coolly rationalize behavior that, seen from the outside, might look more than a little monstrous." - The New York Times This project is made possible with funds fro the Decentralization program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and administered by the Rats Center of the Capital Region.
