Celebrate Pollinator Week with FED Urban Agriculture and Pollinator Partnership!

Join us on Saturday, June 22 from 11-1 at FED Urban Farm for Pollinators and Plants: a Match Made in Nature, a hands-on workshop all about the bees, butterflies, and other critters that are so important to our ecosystems and food systems.

Taught by Dr. Lora Morandin of Pollinator Partnership Canada, the workshop will teach you all you need to know to get started on your pollinator-supporting journey. Learn why pollination is so important to people and the planet, who the pollinators are, and why bees are so special in the world of pollinators. You'll be introduced to ways to help pollinators with a focus on creating buzzing and beautiful gardens. The workshop will end with guidance on identifying pollinators and bee groups.

This is an outdoor workshop so dress for the weather and bring a water bottle and a camp chair if you have one. Participants will also have the chance to plant up FED Urban Farm’s native pollinator gardens - bring gloves, hat, and a trowel!

This workshop is by donation with a suggested donation of $10 per person. All proceeds support FED's projects, including growing food for vulnerable populations, creating gardens in Greater Victoria's urban areas, and providing low-barrier workshops and other educational opportunities.

Frequently asked questions

Is there bike parking?

Yes, feel free to bring your bikes! You can stash your bike on-site at the farm.

Is there vehicle parking?

There is on-street parking available along Tyee Road and Harbour Road. We are located right along the Galloping Goose Trail at the foot of the Bay Street Bridge, so walking and biking are encouraged!

Is the farm accessible?

Yes, the workshop will be in the upper pollinator gardens and will be accessible. If you have any specific questions related to accessibility, please don't hesitate to reach out to fed@synergyfoundation.ca.

Do I need to bring anything?

We are providing camp chairs, but bring your own if you'd like! We also recommend bringing water, a notebook and pen, and a trowel and gloves if you want to help plant the pollinator gardens (we will also supply some).

What should I wear?

Dress for the weather! This is an outdoor workshop so be prepared for sun, rain, wind, or whatever else the forecast throws at us. We recommend a hat, sunscreen, water, a light jacket, and/or maybe a raincoat. You may get a little dirty if you help us plant our pollinator garden.

How do I get to the farm?

We're located in Vic West along the Galloping Goose Trail right at the foot of the Bay Street Bridge. Type "FED Urban Farm" or 395 Harbour Road into Google Maps to be lead straight to us!
