Pollinator Extravaganza!

The Washington Fish and Wildlife Office and its Field Offices throughout the state are part of the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service's Ecological Services program. This program works closely with our partners to conserve the nation's fish, wildlife, plants and habitat by providing national leadership for the conservation of species and their habitats.

An Un-bee-lievable Community Art Project. The works of local nature artist, <A HREF="https://carrieziegler.com/" TARGET="_blank" TITLE="Carrie Ziegler" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Carrie Ziegler</A>, are centered around community collaboration, with the mission of bringing about immersive experiences on relevant environmental and social issues. For the past eight months, Carrie has worked with students and teachers from Avanti High School and Madison Elementary School to research, develop, and design a multipurpose art installation that will provide (1) native bee habitats and (2) schoolyard education opportunities.

On the evening of August 4th, join us in the unveiling of this inspiring piece. We will also have multiple family-fun activities to celebrate our local animal pollinators.

Pollinator-oriented Activities and Attractions. Animal pollinators are fascinatingly diverse, with hundreds to thousands of different species of bees, birds, butterflies and moths, flies, and bats! These hard-working animals help pollinate over 75% of our flowering plants, and nearly 75% of our crops. In recognition of their importance, we have lined up multiple pollinator-oriented activities and attractions:

Event Locale. The school garden and sculpture are on the north side of Avanti High School. The parking entrance is on Eastside Street SE between the intersections with Legion Way SE and 7th Avenue SE--you can't miss it!

 Carrie’s Approach: Carrie works with organizations to create education and outreach plans. She works both onsite and in classrooms and community spaces, educating about specific topics and making art with the participants.
