About this event

  • 5 hours

Welcome to the Points of Light Cultural Celebration! Join us on Sat, May 11, 2024 at 5:00 PM at Ecumenical Plaza for a night of diverse performances, art, and food. Immerse yourself in a celebration of different cultures, traditions, and talents as we come together to celebrate unity, renewal, and Lowell's traditions. The centerpiece of the night is a special ceremony in which participants personalize water lanterns that will be released onto the Western Canal, creating hundreds of floating points of light.

This event is free and open to the public. See you there!

Frequently asked questions

Where do I park?

Parking is available at the St. Patrick's Academy parking lot off of Adams Street and the Hellenic American Academy off of Worthen Street. Follow the signs!

How do I get a lantern?

Lanterns are provided free of charge at the event to decorate while materials last. Volunteers will launch them into the canal around 8:30 pm. We suggest a $5 donation for lanterns.

What types of food is available?

Local nonprofit groups and restaurants will sell street food from American, Burmese, Greek, Hispanic, and other traditions!

What happens to the lanterns after they are launched? Do they create litter?

We strive to make our festival green! Lanterns are collected at the end of the night and the lantern bases and LED lights are reused. In addition, our green team sorts waste into recycling, compost, and trash.
