"Draw 'Til You Drop" One-Day Event

AUDIENCE: Artists 16 years and older and of all levels of experience are invited to participate.

DATE: Saturday, June 8, 2024 (rain date Sunday, June 9, 2024)

TIME: 9 AM - 4 PM

ADVANCE REGISTRATION: $40 ($8 of each registration supports Hagley Museum)

DESCRIPTION: Celebrate spring! Join us for this one-day outdoor drawing marathon on the beautiful grounds of Hagley Museum's upper campus. First held in 2021, this popular event focuses on plein air drawing. The garden, the historic houses, and surrounding landscape provide ample inspiration for artists of all levels. DCAD faculty and teaching assistants will facilitate your day and be on-hand to provide gentle instruction if requested.

Inspired by the New York Studio School of Drawing, Painting & Sculpture, which founded the Drawing Marathon 25+ years ago, this one-day drawing intensive is based on the belief that drawing is the basis of understanding one’s experience of the world. Today, drawing marathons are a worldwide phenomenon, spanning the U.S. and globe. For some participants it is an opportunity to immerse themselves in their preferred artistic practice, while for others, it is a fun, creative, and challenging way to spend a day focused on drawing.

Students must bring their own drawing supplies, beverages, and lunch. We highly recommend you bring a comfortable portable chair/stool suitable for use while drawing, drawing board, a hat, sunscreen, and bug spray. Due to limited access to water, paints are not recommended.

DCAD will have snacks and beverages available as well as extra drawing supplies.

Please note: This event is held outdoors. Grounds are uneven. Comfortable, study shoes are recommended.

Rain Date Activation: If the weather forecast indicates 50% chance of rain or other inclement weather the day prior to the marathon, the rain date will be activated, and you will be contacted by phone (cell) and email. Let's hope for great weather!

• 8:30 am Gates open (use Library entrance GPS: 298 Buck Road, Wilmington, DE 19807) and check-in (pre-registration highly recommended)
• 9:15 am Group warm-up drawing exercise
• 9:45 am Rotation 1
• 11:15 am Break
• 11:30 am Rotation 2
• 12:45 pm Lunch
• 1:15 pm Rotation 3
• 2:45 pm Finishing Touches
• 3:15 pm Group Show & Sharing with Refreshments
• 4 pm End of Day

COURSE CANCELLATIONS AND CHANGES: DCAD reserves the right to cancel, close, or reschedule any course due to insufficient enrollment or to change the instructor. In such a case, the student will be entitled to a refund of tuition and fees. Students will be notified of cancellations or changes as soon as possible and given the option of enrolling in a different class or receiving a refund less the Eventbrite fees which are included in the total tuition and lab fees paid. Refunds will be processed via Eventbrite to the payment method used for the original payment.
