<h2>Project Description</h2><h3>The pleat front bishop is a variation on the classic bishop style dress.  This class will focus on the preparation, pleating, blocking, smocking, and fine finishing details of the button all the way down the back dress.  Students will partially construct and then learn how to pleat and 'pop' the seams to the wrong side for a smooth even look all the way around the smocked portion of the dress.  The dresses will be blocked to avoid the dreaded 'turtle neck' effect when smocking a dense design.  Learn how to pre-finish the neckline piping and binding for a smooth, non bulky closure at the back neckline of the project.  The short sleeve piping and binding are taught 'in the round'.  The hem is bound with a coordinating micro check.  Kits will be available in two size ranges (6, 12, and 18 months -or- size 2, 3, and 4). All kits will contain pattern sheets in sizes 6 months - 4 years and comprehensive full color instructions.  Several kit fabric print options in Liberty of London ($$$) or domestic cotton lawn ($). Kit selection is made at checkout.</h3>

<h2>Class Experience</h2><h3>This six hour class will be divided into two, three hour sessions spaced two weeks apart to allow time for students to smock their dresses.  The class will be an interactive format allowing students to type in questions/comments at any time.  Approximately ½ of the first session will be teaching/demo from my end.  I will give a clear demo on partially constructing the dress, rolling it onto a dowel, pleating, then blocking in preparation for smocking.  I will demo basic smocking technique (cable and two step half space wave) but previous smocking experience is recommended.  I will be rotating between three webcams which will allow face-to-face, super close up, and a clear view of my sewing machine live stitching.  Any remaining time after teaching/demo is complete will be devoted to students completing as many steps as possible to get the dress partially constructed, pleated, and blocked.  The second session will cover all the finishing steps for piping and binding the neckline, sleeves, and hem.  Your dress kit will arrive to your home at least one week prior to the first session of the class. </h3>

<h2>Prerequisites</h2><h3>Basic geometric smocking experience.</h3>

<h2>Student Supply List</h2><h3>- sewing machine in good working order</h3><h3>- #70 sewing machine needle (prefer microtex)</h3><h3>- foot suitable for making mini piping- edge joining foot (optional, but helpful)</h3><h3>- blocking surface (at least 12X12)</h3><h3>- pleater/dowel/pleater thread/spray starch</h3><h3>- three sheets of tissue paper (for tracing patterns)</h3><h3>- paper scissors and tape</h3><h3>- rotary cutter/ruler/cutting mat (optional, but helpful)</h3><h3>- basic sewing supplies</h3><h3></h3>
