Pleasure Reading at The Rake

We're Pleasure Reading, a pop-up romance bookstore based in Alameda. Come join us at The Rake on May 17!

We're a small shop but proud of our thoughtfully curated book selection, which includes fantasy romance, historical romance and contemporary romance, with strong queer representation (including those hockey boys). We have graphic novels, young adult romances, and we also carry cards, bookmarks, stickers, and more.

Pleasure Reading was founded by Caroline and Steve, two star-crossed business partners who dreamed of opening a romance bookstore, then got to work and made it happen. We are passionate about what we do and we are so excited to meet our local community of romance readers!

The Rake at Admiral Maltings, with its perfectly romance-themed name, is a pub and taproom that serves a delicious menu, including wood-smoked BBQ, charcuterie boards, sandwiches, small plates and more. The beer and cocktails on offer come from breweries and distilleries that source their malt from Admiral Maltings, which specializes in a traditional floor-malting process with locally grown, high quality grain. Take a peek into the malthouse during your visit!

Admiral Maltings is conveniently located on Alameda Point, next to Almanac Adventureland & Brewery, with lots of nearby parking and easy access from the 19 and 96 bus lines.
