Online reflective practice for playworkers across the UK.

Talking about what we do has always been a vital part of being a playworker. Ordinarily we do this in our teams at the start and end of each day. If we are lucky, we also meet other playworkers from all across the UK at conferences. These conversations refresh us with new ideas and ways of working. Recent discussions on social media have been nuanced and open to misinterpretation. But right now, we need each other’s thoughts, support and ideas more than we ever have done before. Small reflective practice sessions held over the past couple of months on Zoom have been kindlier. We can see each other’s faces, hear voices, leaving less room for the kind of misunderstandings that can happen on social media. During a discussion at the 9th of the 8 Weeks of Conference, playworkers proposed a regular zoom chat for us to do what we do best and learn from each other about our work. To navigate together a world where cuddling is a crime and pubs open before playgrounds. To help keep our shared language and understandings of play as the map and compass of our journey, as practitioners, out of lockdown.We held the first &#x27;Playwork in Progress&#x27; reflective practice session at the beginning of the month and, 3 weeks later, following that success we&#x27;re back with the next session!
