About this event

Description:

Participants will explore why transracial placements are sometimes necessary and things adoptive families or foster families should be aware of in respect to race and culture. Participants will be given tips and strategies to better support families navigating a transracial placement. Participants will also be connected with resources to support their learning and the learning of their clients.

Objectives:

As a result of this course, participants will be prepared to:

1. Participants will be able to recognize and articulate an understanding what a transracial placement is

2. Participants will explore various strategies to support and inform clients on issues related to transracial adoption.

3. Participants will be able to identify resources to support additional learning for themselves and their clients

Format: Live Zoom (once registered you will find a link on the online event page)

CECHs: 3 Continuing Education Contact Hours.

I nstructor: Kelley Hollie, LMSW

Kelley Hollie is an LMSW, therapist, and scholar-activist with 18 years experience in child welfare, international adoption, international Social Work, working with trauma and clinical practice. Her research interests include trauma, child welfare, autism, transracial adoption, the Black family, and social work education. She resides in Phoenix, Arizona with her husband and two young children.
