Did you know that Alice Billing House is named after the first female sanitary inspector in Newham.  In 1897 this important role, involved improving working conditions for women, and investigating the causes of infectious diseases and child mortality

Alice was a pioneer and champion for change in women’s health.

Places, Spaces & Faces a fun, free, digital self-portrait activity exploring Alice Billing House. Learn about the person, behind the building, behind the name.

Do you know the story behind your street/building?

What would YOU like to be remembered for?

Create your own self-portrait on iPads, using a selfie photograph as the framework and add words, colour and texture.

The finished portraits will be uploaded and projected as they are completed, to create an instant evolving exhibition.

The activity will take 30 – 60 minutes – no experience necessary, amazing results every time!

THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOU BOOK

  • You must live in Newham and provide a Newham postcode on booking
  • Under 18’s must be accompanied by an adult
  • If you are unable to make it, please do let us know as early as possible as there is a waiting list.
  • You will be contacted 5 days before the workshop via email, you must confirm your space within 24 hours of the email otherwise your spot will go to the waiting list
