Opening Reception on Friday, April 1, 2022 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM<a href="https://www.pastpresentprojects.org/events/opening-reception-for-place-making" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Place + Making</a> is the Spring 2022 art exhibition at Past Present Projects&#x27; gallery space. The installation features fiber-based artworks by <a href="http://www.tabithaarnold.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Tabitha Arnold</a> and <a href="https://www.hipastures.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Emily Carris-Duncan</a>. In various ways, both artists consider the lifecycle of the city and its communities through representations of the built and natural environment. Tabitha Arnold uses the material language of rug-making to depict landmarks such as Philadelphia&#x27;s Eastern State Penitentiary and the federal First Bank building alongside crumbling structures and other markers of civic neglect. Emily Carris-Duncan employs patchwork as a mapmaking medium to delineate meaningful sites for communities of color in southwest Philadelphia. Using fabrics that were hand dyed from natural plants, Carris-Duncan maps the geometric layout of gardens, cemeteries, row home blocks, and the curvaceous Schuylkill River. This is a free event. Registration is requested but not required. Beverages will be served. Face masks are now optional in the Bok Building. If you prefer to wear a mask, please continue to do so, but it is not required.Getting here: This exhibition is located in space #506 in the <a href="https://www.buildingbok.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Bok Building</a>, a former vocational high school turned workplace, full of makers, non-profits, small businesses, and artists. The main visitor entrance to the Bok Building is located at 1901 S. 9th St. Please scan the QR code (below) on the call box for access. Once you enter the building, please make a right and take the West elevators to the 5th floor. . Limited on-street parking is available. If possible, we strongly encourage you to use an alternative form of transportation. Closest subway station: Snyder Station - Broad Street Line. Nearby Septa bus routes: 45, 47, 47M, 79Bicycles: BOK is an Indego bike share location with a kiosk located on the corner of 8th and Mifflin Streets. We also have plenty of bike parking available next to the entrance on 9th Street.
