What is the darkroom experience?

Guests will get to make their very own pinhole camera, load it with darkroom paper, 'take' a photo and then develop it in our darkroom. All with assistance from a qualifed college lecturer/ on hand shop staff. You can then take your new print and diy camera home.

Suitable for youngsters and adults a like! (Age 11 +)

Please bring your own tin can (drinks cans) if you have any and we will turn it into a pinhole camera!

What's in store?

The location is a traditional camera shop filled with lots to look at from vintage cameras to digital services, there is something for every photography lover to enjoy, no matter the ability. Our friendly, expert staff are more than happy to discuss anything photography related or answer any questions. The shop has been family run since 1925 so we really do know our photographic history here!

Facilites and Refreshments:

We have toilets on site and will be providing free tea, coffee & biscuits.

Frequently asked questions

Is there parking near you?

Yes. There is some road parking directly outside the front of the shop which is 1 hour free but is more limited. There is a much bigger car park behind our building (about 5 mins walk away) that has ample space and 2 hours free - you still need to get a ticket to ensure your 2 hours free.

Do I need to know about photography to do this experience?

No. We are beginner friendly! Having some understanding of film photography would be advantageous but we are used to people of all knowledge levels and are more than happy to explain / teach something new. This experience is suitable to be a learning opportunity.

How many photos will I get to take?

1. The first run through of the darkroom is free so everyone will get to make 1 camera and 1 print. However if you would like to take more photos you can purchase your own darkroom paper on site and use that to take more shots!

Is the darkroom experience wheelchair friendly?

No,sadly not.

Why can't I get a ticket?

We are only using eventbrite to advertise and get an idea for turn out, we will not be using tickets for entry to the event. Eventbrite limits the amount of free tickets which is why we are "sold out." You can turn up between 9:30am-4:30pm and stay for as long as you want without a ticket.
