Pine Needle Coaster Workshop
Join Lauren White to learn how to craft handmade coasters from pine needles. All supplies provided. No experience needed.
Originating from the Native Americans of the woodland tribes, pine needle weaving is an ecological form of art which utilizes the long, thin and flexible needle bundles that have fallen from pine trees. Artist Lauren White will be leading a workshop on how to prepare pine needles and handcraft a sustainable coaster. We will be working with natural hemp cord and pine needles collected from the forest floor to bind together this functional creation. Dexterity of the hands will be needed as we will be threading through the eye of a needle and using crafting needles as a tool to weave the elements together.
Growing up with gardeners and artists in her life, Lauren White's work is inspired by her curiosity of how we can work in harmony with the awe-inspiring design of nature. She strives to create while keeping in mind functionality and necessity. Lauren best portrays her admiration of nature through her creative process. While upcycling or using natural elements to create useful, yet beautiful pieces, she works often with clay, paper, and things the earth is composed of. She strives to reduce waste and toxic material by using mostly what can be found in nature.
