About this event

What is Picture Book Club?

Picture Book Club is a group for grown-ups who love picture books and want to share their favorites by reading those books aloud to others and then have a fun discussion (with no homework and no wine, because this is held at Mr. Mopps' Children's Books).

What kind of grown-up reads picture books?

All kinds: parents, grandparents, teachers, illustrators, designers, pediatricians, authors, librarians, booksellers and anyone else really.

Can I read ANY picture book?

Pretty much, although we do have two rules:

1. The book must be intended for children (yes we know about Robert Crumb)

2. It cannot be a book you wrote (and if we find someone trying to sneak in their own work by having a friend read it, we will be very disappointed)

Do I have to read or can I just listen and discuss?

Please contribute in whatever way suits you best. If you want to do an interpretive dance, we'll move the chairs for you.

Who runs Picture Book Club?

Clare has been a children's specialist bookseller for 15 years and for most of that time she has read aloud to kids at storytime at least once a week. Monica is the author of two beautiful contemporary picture books (Leo + Lea and Elbert in the Air) and has been leading creative writing workshops around the Bay Area for over twenty years.
