Photography Workshop: Framing & Composition

Shofuso Japanese Cultural CenterPhiladelphia, PA
Friday, June 19  •  2 PM - 5 PM
Overview

Learn framing and composition in a 3-hour guided workshop at Shofuso. Improve how you see, shoot, and create stronger images.

Join me for a 3-hour photography workshop focused on framing and composition, set in the calm and minimal environment of the Shofuso Japanese Garden.

This session is designed to help you see differently—learning how to simplify scenes, guide the viewer’s eye, and create strong, intentional images.

We’ll begin with a 1-hour on-location instruction where you’ll learn the core principles behind effective framing and composition. Then we’ll apply these ideas during a 2-hour guided photowalk through the garden.

Throughout the session, you’ll receive real-time feedback as you explore different scenes and refine your approach.

This workshop is perfect for beginners or anyone looking to move beyond taking random photos and start creating images with purpose.

No model or special equipment is needed—just bring your camera (or phone) and be ready to learn.

Spots are limited to keep the experience focused and personal.

Please be respectful of the surrounding area. No flash and remove shoes when entering the Japanese house.

-For focal length generally it is 16mm to 85mm. Feel free to go higher but it should not be necessary. Same goes with an ND filter. You don't need it but to lower excess light or to smoothen water you can bring that with you.

*Ticket for entrance into the garden is included.
