About this event

Limited to 8 participants

20% of your workshop fee will be donated to the Friends of Algonquin Park who are a non-profit Canadian registered charity for people passionate about Algonquin Park. They dedicate their resources to furthering the educational and interpretive programs to develop current and future stewards of Alqonquin Park. They do this through research, the development and delivery of programs, workshops, and events, plus the production of education materials.

Spend the day learning how to make images using the manual settings in your camera while being surrounded by nature.

FOR THOSE WHO:
- have a digital camera (DSLR), or mirrorless but only shoot in Auto mode, or Priority settings mode (so almost fully manual)
- have watched and taken online workshops but still have questions
- you really just want to have some on-one-on time instead of watching YouTube for answers

YOU WILL:
- learn how to understand your camera in Manual mode
- take lead control of the settings on your camera so your images turn out as you envisioned them
- learn the fundamentals of digital photography
- get a handbook with notes on everything that the course covers

Itinerary: We’ll meet first thing in the morning lake-side and go over instruction on manual settings with time to work on exercise. The afternoon will be spent paddling a canoe around one of Algonquin’s pristine lakes or rivers using the skills you learned. It’s a great way to work on aperture, shutter speed and ISO, and get some awesome shots of your new friends canoeing in Algonquin Park.

Experience: this workshop is for all levels. Both beginners and advanced photographers will walk away with new skills.

Endurance: We’ll be sitting and wandering around most of the morning, but the afternoon will be spent paddling around in canoes along a river and out to a lake if the wind is in our favour. Moderate canoeing skills will be beneficial, but not required.

What’s included: canoe, paddle, PFD (personal flotation device/lifejacket) and safety kit. Course materials.

What’s not included: park day pass, lunch, snacks, and water. Accommodation.

What to Bring: We’ll spend the morning learning outside at a picnic area. You’ll need to bring a chair, warm clothing/blanket, snacks/lunch and water for drinking. Sunscreen, hat, rain gear. Bring a tripod and your camera manual.
