We love films!  Great filmmaking can entertain us, make us wonder, encourage us to question our beliefs and help us see beyond ourselves. By understanding the struggles and challenges of others we can create dialogue to help connect communities to our shared humanity.The women of Rise Documentary Films are committed to bringing powerful thought provoking films and conversation to our Boston area community at large. These timely, evocative films are handpicked by the Rise team centering around environmental and social justice issues that effect our local and global communities.

RISE DOCUMENTARY FILM SERIES

Join RISE Documentary Films and the BTU  as we follow three high school seniors who struggle to get themselves and their friends to college.

Roxbury Community College Media Arts Center Auditorium

Personal Statement is an emmy nominated feature-length documentary that follows Karoline, Christine and Enoch through their senior year and into college. The three Brooklyn high school seniors are determined to get their entire class to college, even though they aren&#x27;t even sure they are going to make it there themselves.They are working as college counselors in their schools because many of their friends have nowhere else to turn for support. They work tirelessly as peer counselors to realize better futures for themselves and their peers. They struggle and they stumble, but refuse to succumb to the barriers that prevent so many low-income students from attending and graduating from college.
