Persian Dance Essentials
Dance, Poetry, and Expression from the Iranic World
Experience the beauty and elegance of Persian dance, inspired by Persian poetry, miniature art, and the rich movement traditions of the Iranic world. This class introduces the essential vocabulary of Persian dance—flowing gestures, spiral pathways, turns, footwork patterns, and expressive upper-body movement.
Guided by Master Dr. Farima Berenji, this training is based on years of research and embodied practice in Persian and Central Asian dance traditions, blending traditional forms with her own refined technique and approach to musicality, alignment, and expression.
Each class includes warm-up, core strengthening, ballet-based alignment, and guided technique, followed by drills and short sequences to build strength, coordination, and fluidity. Alongside movement practice, we explore the cultural and historical roots of the dance, its connection to poetry, music, and storytelling, and the expressive language of gesture and form.
We work with both the foundational structure of Persian dance—posture, footwork, traveling steps, turns, and body coordination—and the expressive dimension of movement through hands, arms, torso, and facial expression, where dance becomes a living form of poetry.
No experience necessary. Open to all levels—come as you are.
