The Perinatal Hepatitis B Prevention Program Summit is a biannual hybrid event. Presenters can share, discuss and provide updates on case management recommendations, ACIP-recommended practices for hepatitis B vaccines, and updates from the Perinatal Hepatitis B Prevention Program’s Salesforce database. Attendess typically including OBGYN/prenatal providers, infection control nurses, primary care physicians, pediatricians, midwives and regional/local case managers. NOTE: Salesforce training is only avialable to in-person registrants. If you registered for virtual attendance and need to switch to in-person please contact piet@dshs.texas.gov.

Day 1

Associate Commissioner Josh Hutchison welcomes attendees to the Texas Perinatal Hepatitis B Prevention Program Summit and provides an introduction to the Texas Perinatal Hepatitis B Prevention Program.

Texas’ Fight Against Perinatal Hepatitis B

The presentation will offer a program overview of the National Perinatal Hepatitis B Prevention Program and discuss the challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as ways to address these challenges at various program levels.

Perinatal Hepatitis B Prevention Program: A National Perspective

Presentation will focus on advancing perinatal hepatitis B prevention efforts within the broader framework of the Texas Viral Hepatitis Elimination Plan. Attendees will gain insights into the goals, strategies, and collaborative efforts aimed at reducing the burden of perinatal hepatitis B transmission. Through a comprehensive overview of the state’s initiatives and partnerships, this presentation aims to inform and engage participants in contributing towards the goal of eliminating viral hepatitis in Texas.

Shaping a Healthier Future: A Viral Hepatitis Elimination Plan for Texas

Laboratory Diagnostic of Viral Hepatitis B: Testing Challenges and Case Scenarios. An overview of viral hepatitis with an emphasis on the diagnosis of hepatitis B virus infection, availability of serologic and molecular tests, and challenges during testing and interpretation of results. Several diagnostic quandaries encountered by the PHBPP coordinators with potential solutions will
be included.

Hep B Moms: Prevention of Perinatal Transmission and Management of Hepatitis B in Pregnancy and Post Partum. This presentation will review hepatitis B perinatal management recommendations and how to implement a comprehensive primary care-based perinatal hepatitis B program within a community health center.

Estimating Annual Births to Hepatitis B Surface Antigen-Positive Women in Texas. Estimating the births to hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg)–positive women can help public health programs plan surveillance and outreach activities to improve identification and management of at-risk women and infants. Forecasting disease burden plays a pivotal role in formulating effective intervention strategies and programs.

Estimating Annual Births to Hepatitis B Surface Antigen-Positive Women

Provide guidance to prenatal providers, delivery facilities, labs, and coordinators from other states on how to access DSHS PHBPP Public Portal to report cases or potential cases requiring further investigation.

Overview of Salesforce

This training is tailored to familiarize attendees with the fundamentals of Salesforce for efficiently monitoring and tracking the progress of hepatitis B-positive women, infants, and contacts who are up to 24 months old.

Discussion on new universal adult hepatitis B vaccination recommendations. This session incorporates the story of someone with lived hepatitis B experience and discusses how providers can integrate the messaging and resources to aid in preventing perinatal hepatitis B.

Preventing Perinatal Transmission of Hepatitis B

This session highlights the work done to reduce the risk of perinatal hepatitis B and encourages continued efforts in this public health endeavor.
