About this event

  • 4 days 5 hours

This fun, challenging workshop offers instruction on acting, improvisation and character development. Based on improvisational games, students create their own characters and collaborate as their creations are woven into an original play that becomes a fully staged production. The creator-performers see their ideas take shape as they follow the entire process from conception to script, stage and video (which is shared with families). Musical theatre elements can be incorporated into any of the sessions. Ages 8-15

A place for kids to shine

Founded by Matilda Manning Kunin in 1983, Young Performers Theatre is a San Francisco-based nonprofit whose mission is to provide every child in the Bay Area with access to theatre arts-based enrichment curricula. Through its Theatre in Education and outreach programs, repertory productions, classes and summer camps, YPT helps children build core social-emotional learning skills and sets the stage for success in many fields of endeavor outside of performance. Our programs are designed to cultivate a love of the arts and develop creative problem-solving abilities, teamwork, focus, empathy and self-confidence.
